Positioned spectacularly above Lake Tekapo, Roundhill ski area promises a stunning backdrop, with breath-taking views of Aoraki Mt Cook, the Southern Alps and Lake Tekapo. Enjoy the varied trails, the terrain park and the back-country options, or just relax at the café.

Roundhill is owned by Tekapo locals Oskar and Karoline Rieder. Their children grew up skiing and riding at Roundhill and they have created a ski field with parents and the kids in mind. It’s the kind of place where you make friends for life.

TRANSPORT

Roundhill’s access road is famous for its gradual incline and generous width – ensuring easy driving access to everyone, including campervans and buses. As such, all visitors drive to Roundhill.

Roundhill is approximately:

  • 3 hours from Christchurch
  • 3 hours from Queenstown
  • 1.5 hours from Timaru
  • 1 hour from Fairlie
  • 35 minutes from Tekapo

There is a daily shuttle service from the Tekapo Village leaving town at 8am and departing Roundhill at 4:15pm.  The price is $20 per seat.

Roundhill is 32km from Tekapo, the drive comprises of a flat 24km drive along the eastern shore of the lake, then 8km of ski field access road to the base area at 1350m. The gradual, wide, driver-friendly access road allows campervans and buses to access Roundhill with ease.

ON THE MOUNTAIN

Roundhill offers great facilities, with the ticket office, cafe and ski & snowboard rental all located at the top of the car park. There is also a refreshment hut towards the top of the T-bar.

At Roundhill you can park your vehicle right next to the slopes. You are welcome to bring your bbq and deck chairs and set up camp for the day.

The fully licensed café has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and a great range of hearty fare.  The Von Brown is a quaint wee refreshment hut situated near the top of the T-Bar.

There is a huge range of ski and snowboard equipment available for rent.

Roundhill offers a complete, qualified international snowsports school for skiers and snowboarders of all ages and stages.
